Obituary of Margaret K. McEckron

Margaret K. McEckron, 89, of Deferiet, died Sunday at the Carthage Area Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit, where she had resided since July 6, 2013. There will be a graveside service in the spring in Elmwood Cemetery, Adams. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams. Born July 12, 1925 in Watertown, daughter of Harold and Lera Hicks Patchen, she attended school in Harrisville. She married Vernon Compo in 1941. The couple lived in Harrisville following their marriage. Mr. Compo died in 1987. She later married William McEckron on May 22, 1993. The couple lived in Deferiet all their married life. Mr. McEckron died September 20, 1998. Mrs. McEckron was a waitress for many years, which included eight years at Elmer’s Diner in Carthage. She is survived by two sons, Vernon (Carol) Compo, Naumberg, Charles Compo, Carthage; three daughters, Mrs. Roland (Virginia) Couter, NH, Loretta Fuller, Carthage, Robin Zema, NC; eleven grandchildren, several great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Leslie (Shirley) Curtis, Syracuse, Mrs. Jack (Patricia) Kirkland, Watertown, Charlotte Bishop,NC; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by three brothers, James Patchen, Harold Patchen, Jr. and Virgil Patchen; and two sisters, Aleta Meek and Ruth Fuller. Mrs. McEckron enjoyed gardening and making quilts. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
