Obituary of Carl D. Vance

Carl D. Vance, 86, formerly of Pierrepont Manor, passed away March 24 in Wasilla, AK, where he had been a resident since 2006. Mr. Vance was born January 31, 1930 in Adams, NY to George and Helen (Cowell) Vance and attended local schools. He served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956, the Air Force Reserves from 1956-1960, and the Navy Reserves from 1966-1980. Mr. Vance worked as a journeyman electrician and foreman in New York, Colorado and California, most recently for IBEW Local #332 in San Jose. He also worked the New York Board of Fire Underwriters for several years. Mr. Vance enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba diving, boating and flying. Mr. Vance is survived by one daughter, Gwen McManaman of Glenville, NY: two sons, Reginald of Paradise, CA and Gregory of Wasilla, AK: 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren: one sister-in-law, Ann Vance of FL: and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Marguerite who died in childhood, and three brothers, Harold (Ann) Vance, Paul (Helen) Vance and Vincent (Fran) Vance. He had been married to Joy Cressman for 53 years prior to their divorce. Calling hours will be from 11:00 am-1:00 pm Friday, with a memorial service at 1:00 pm, April 1 at the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams, NY. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery in Adams. A viewing was held earlier in Wasilla, AK.
