Obituary of Alice A. Gibbs

Alice Sheldon Gibbs, formerly of Adams, died May 2, 2016 at her home at the Ives Hill Retirement Community in Watertown, NY.  A memorial service will be at 12:00 pm on Saturday June 4, at the Adams United Methodist Church, with an hour of visitation preceding the service.  Burial will be private.  Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams. She was born August 17, 1926 in Ellisburg, N.Y. the daughter of Blanche Huffstater and Claude Sheldon.  The family moved to Sandy Creek when Alice was a young girl.  She graduated from Sandy Creek High School and worked for Taylor Instrument in Rochester N.Y. for many years before moving back to the Adams, N.Y.  On October 14, 1951, she married John Sheldon Gibbs of Adams Center. They lived in the Adams area all of their married life. She and her husband owned and operated the former Montgomery Ward Catalog store in Adams for many years.  She is survived by her son John and wife Audrey Gibbs and their two children, John Gibbs III and Ellyn Gibbs, Baldwinsville and her daughter and husband Alicia (Tish) and Frederick Vosburgh and their two daughters Emily and Elizabeth Vosburgh, Clarence Center N.Y.  Her sister and husband Grace and Edmund Davis live in Syracuse.  Many nieces and nephews also survive Alice. She was predeceased by her husband, John S. Gibbs, who died on December 28, 1998.
