Obituary of Joyce R. Cady

Joyce Rupp Cady, 93, of Watertown, NY died Tuesday March 25, 2025 at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, NY. Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home Inc, Adams, NY. Born March 20, 1932 in Randolph, NY, daughter of Herbert A. and Dolores (Blasdell) Rupp, she graduated from Gowanda High School in 1949, and Cornell University in1953 with a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics. She was a member of the Kappa Delta National Sorority. She married Lieutenant Charles F. Cady of Adams Center, NY on September 12, 1953 at Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church in Gowanda, NY. Following their marriage they lived in Oklahoma and Washington State before moving to the dairy farm on the Fawdry Road in Sackets Harbor, NY. Following the death of her husband on September 23, 2008, she stayed on the farm before moving to her home in 2009, where she lived the rest of her life. Surviving is a daughter Sally (Stephen) Lee, Watertown; a son C. Thomas (Vickie) Cady, Sackets Harbor; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and one brother David Rupp, Niagara Falls, NY. She is predeceased by 2 sons Edward R. who died in 1990 and William E. who died in 2013. Joyce , also known as “Kit” and “Nonnie”, was a Girl Scout Leader, 4-H Leader and a contributor of her beautiful crocheted afghans to the Annual PBS Auction for over 20 years. She was an excellent cook that was known and admired for her chocolate layer cake and potato salad, enjoyed most craft's, gardening, bowling and especially cattle showing at the Jefferson County Fair. She always had a pitch fork in her hand to help keep the animals clean. It was her request not to have any public services. She will be buried next to her husband this spring in the Union Cemetery, Adams Center, NY A celebration of her life will be posted at a later date.
