Sally A. Smith Obituary

Sally A. Smith, 86 of Adams, NY, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, May 13th, 2025, at Samaritan Summit Village, with her children by her side.

Calling hours will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday May 18th at the Piddock Funeral Home in Adams. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday May 19th at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Adams. Burial will follow at Adams Rural Cemetery, Rt 11 Adams. Family and Friends are welcome to gather at her Daughter Kelly's home at 14372 US Rt 11 following the burial service.

Sally was one of three children, born December 2nd, 1938 to Charles and Laura Stacy Bourcy. Sally grew up on the family farm in Cape Vincent and graduated from Cape Vincent School, Sally never got farming out of her heart. She loved going back to the home farm and spending the day with her "baby" brother which she always referred to him as.

After graduating, Sally and a "girl" friend took an adventure and drove to Miami, Florida. Sally always said "we stayed until we ran out of money" at which time she returned to Watertown, NY. She then was employed by Kemper Insurance Company at both their Watertown and Syracuse locations. While driving through Adams, she stopped at the local repair shop to see about having a radio installed in her car. Robert Smith installed the radio and then he asked her to go up the street to the Shady Rest for a drink. This is where their love story began.

Robert and Sally were married February 18th, 1966 for 57 years, until Robert's passing in 2023. In 1972, Sally along with Bob purchased Bailey Auto Parts. They moved the inventory to their home location under the name of Bob's Auto Supply and became affiliated with NAPA. Sally wore "many hats' working alongside Bob. Her roles included but were not limited to bookkeeper, parts runner, counter clerk and lunch maker. Sally did all of this while raising their three children and played a large role in her grandchildren's lives as well. Her children and grandchildren were her life.

Sally is survived by her children; Kelly (Dean) Widrick, Scott (Deana) Smith, Tina (Neal) Tyrrell and stepson Marty Smith; her grandchildren Earle (Kaley) Widrick, Justin Widrick, Jessica Widrick, Jordan (Nikki) Smith, Lexi (Dylan) Daughen, Nathan Smith, Carter Smith (Jazzlynn Maass), Ellie Smith, Samantha (Cameron) Jackson, Lia Tyrrell and Megan Tyrrell. She is also survived by three step grandchildren; Ryan (Erin) Smith, Collin Smith, and Logan Smith, children of Danny Smith; great grandchildren Bennett, Weston and Kolton Widrick, Everett and Annie Smith, Leighton Smith, Cooper and Maverick Jackson, soon to be baby Daughen, Kaylynn and Kip Baldoze and Lucy Widrick; sister in laws Donna Bourcy, Betty Tyner Pine, and LuAnn (Geroge) Werbacher, along with several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins and special friends; Frank and Lise DiGirolomo and Rubie (Rufus) Chalmers. She is also survived by Tammy and Jessie, who Sally considered family as well.

She was predeceased in 2023 by her husband, Robert, in 2018 by her grandson Luke Tyrrell, and in 2021 by her stepson Danny Smith. Also, her sister and husband, Nancy and Russell Backus and her "baby" brother Wesley Bourcy. Robert's siblings; Patricia and James Ryder, Joan and Harry Marquett and brothers-in-law Gary Tyner and William Pine.

Sally and Bob had many adventures. Their best times were spent camping and on motorcycle trips. These travels covered most of the United States and some of Canada. When not traveling, Sally spent most of her time with her children and grandchildren. She was a care giver to both of her siblings. Sally captured many hearts, if you encountered her, you quickly took a piece of her heart forever.

Thank you to Steve, Cathy, Ellen, Jen and Bonnie, who assisted her family in caring for Sally while she was still at home. A very special thank you to The Ives Lodge retirement home and the 4th staff at Samaritan Summit Village.
