Gary Gene Delaney, 80, of Watertown New York passed away unexpectedly at the home of his daughter in Adams Center on November 5, 2025.  

Gary was born in Watertown NY on September 6, 1945, to William and Flora (Riddler) Delaney. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1963 where he participated in the men’s gymnastic and varsity track teams. He joined the US Army in1965 where he served as a Draftsman for the General Section, Headquarters 4th Armored Division through 1967. He earned many awards while serving including an M-14 sharpshooter badge. After his service, he continued his hard work and dedication in the workforce and retired from The Fort Drum Carpenter Shop in 2007.

He loved attending air shows, woodworking, collecting coins and watching the Yankees and Buffalo Bills. Gary was a talented fudge maker and enjoyed a sweet snack more often than not. Known for his generous spirit, Gary took great joy in brightening someone’s day with a piece of chocolate and a friendly smile.

Gary is survived by his children, Wendy Hinman (Donald Stephens), Sherry Sherman (Hiram Arthur), and Scott Delaney (Beth Delaney). AKA Papa, Bum Bum, Bummy, Bummers, Bummeroni loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He is also survived by one brother Terry Delaney.

Gary was predeceased by his parents William and Flora Delaney, sisters Barb Delaney and Joyce Fowler, brothers Jack Delaney, Joe Delaney, Richard Delaney, and grandson Ryan LaBarge.

There are no services at this time.  A private burial will be in the spring.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm Saturday November 29th at the Watertown Elks Club.
