Obituary of Gary T. Berry
Gary T. Berry, 5 years old, affectionately known by all as Gar-Bear, completed his earthly journey on January 6th, 2026, surrounded by love. Though his time on earth was brief, his life was profound, and his legacy will endure far beyond his years.
Gary was a child known for his joy and bravery—one who defied every obstacle set before him. From the beginning, he met the world with courage, determination, and a spirit that refused to be diminished. He filled every room with light. He loved playing with his Little People, reading books, swinging, listening to music—especially Ms. Rachel—and finding comfort in snuggling with his brother and sister, where his happiest and safest moments were found.
In his short life, Gary’s family ensured he experienced the fullness of living. He traveled to see the ocean in three different states, taking in the sound of the waves and the feel of the wind blowing through his hair. He loved museums, zoos, and aquariums, and especially treasured camping with his family. Wherever he went, his signature wave and radiant smile followed—capturing hearts and lifting spirits, even on the hardest days.
Gary loved Christmas and Halloween and could be found listening to music from both year round. He delighted in life’s simple joys. His favorite foods were bacon, berries, potato chips, and cheese balls.
His favorite color was purple—an echo of the brightness and vibrancy he brought into the world.
More than anything, he was a teacher. He taught everyone who met him. He left an indelible mark on medical professionals—both new and experienced—reminding them that sometimes the greatest care comes not from a textbook, but from compassion, creativity, and seeing the whole child. Through his life, he taught lessons to all of joy, patience, hope, and unconditional love. Many found their faith strengthened because of him, their perspectives forever changed.
He was a child who will never be forgotten by those who had the privilege to care for him, love him, and learn from him. Though his days were few, his impact was vast. His legacy will live on in the countless hearts he touched.
Gary was born September 16, 2020 in Watertown, NY and will forever be deeply loved and remembered by his parents, Jeremy and Melanie; his brother, Anderson; his sister, Addison; Grandparents, Tamera Berry, and Bryan and Margit Hogaboom; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and many extended family members and friends who will forever hold him close. He is predeceased by a grandfather, Gary Berry.
