Alice W. Curtis Obituary
Alice W. Curtis, 79, a longtime resident of Rodman, New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 19, 2026 at the Hospice of Jefferson County in Watertown, surrounded by her loving family.
Born March 16, 1947, in Carthage, she was the daughter of Vernon L. and Rheta R.(Simonds) Walseman. She graduated from Beaver River High School and went on to attend the House of the Good Samaritan School of Nursing in 1965, graduating in 1968. Alice began her nursing career that same year at the House of the Good Samaritan Hospital in Watertown, where she worked on the Orthopedic and Surgical floor until 1975.
On June 1, 1968, Alice married Donald G. Curtis at the Naumburg Methodist Church in Naumburg, New York. The couple made their home in Rodman, where they built a life together over fifty-seven years of marriage.
From 1975 to 1987, she dedicated her time to raising her family and managing the accounts for the Curtis Dairy Farm in Rodman. In 1987, Alice returned to the profession she loved, serving as the head nurse at South Jefferson Central High School in Adams for twenty-two years. Known for her calm presence, compassion, and professionalism, she cared for generations of students and staff until her retirement.
Alice was a devoted member of the Rodman Community Church, where she served as a trustee, taught Sunday School, played piano for worship services, and served as the church historian. She was also an active member of Chapter 191 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rodman Fire Department Auxiliary. Her quiet leadership, community spirit, and devotion to others reflected a life of faith and purpose.
Surviving is her husband, Donald G. Curtis of Rodman; one son, Darrell (Dawn) Curtis of Rodman; three daughters, Rebecca (Michael) Stone of Binghamton, Shelley (William) Musci-Carpenter of Cortland, and Wendy Curtis of Rodman. She is also survived by grandchildren: Miranda, Dylan, Kirra, Katherine, Alexander, Sam, and Jarrett; a brother, Clinton (Nancy) Walseman; a sister, Cindy Newman; one sister-in-law Ann Beamer, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, a son-in-law, Michael Musci, and a brother-in-law, Gary Newman.
The Curtis family extends special thanks to her niece, April Beamer-Breen, for the devoted care and kindness shown to Alice during her time at the hospital and while in Hospice, to Dawn and Chris Boulio, cherished family friends, for their constant support and care, and to her sister-in-law, Ann Beamer, for her loving presence and compassion throughout Alice’s illness.
A memorial service will be held at the Rodman Community Church on March 28, 2026 at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Rob Ziegler officiating, followed by a gathering of family and friends at the church.
Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Rodman, will take place at a later time.
