Adams - Cecelia Swiernik Mooney, 83, longtime resident of Adams, passed away peacefully on Monday May 18, 2026 at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, NY.
Born in Glenfield NY October 21, 1942, she was the daughter of Michael and Lucille (Ward) Swiernik. She graduated from Constableville High School in 1960, and then attended Central City Business Institute in Syracuse, NY. She went to work at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, NY and later worked at the Constableville Elementary School as a teacher’s aide until her retirement.
Cecelia married Rodney V. Mooney of Port Leyden on December 8, 1962 in Carthage NY. They were married for 64 years.
Surviving besides her husband Rodney, are her three children, Rhonda Mooney-Aidala (Dana), Roderick and Jessica (Bice) Mooney, Ryan Mooney and Rachel Brown; grandchildren Alexandra, Zachary (Elizabeth) Mooney, Anthony Mooney; two step grandchildren Codie Wheeler and Sidney Wheeler III; three great grandchildren Maebel, Josephine and Dawson Mooney; a brother Arnold (Karen) Swiernik, sister in law Sally Swiernik; and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by two brothers Leonard and Michael “Fritz” Swiernik.
Cecelia was a devout Christian of the Catholic Faith. She was a member of the NYS Teachers Association and Union.
She enjoyed playing Bingo, reading, word search puzzles, watching the New York Yankees and was a fan of stock car racing and go cart races.
She also worked for many years as an election poll worker throughout Jefferson County.
A graveside service will be held in the Port Leyden Cemetery on Thursday May 21, 2026 at 11:00am.
In keeping with her wishes there will be no calling hours.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to all of the doctors, nurses and aides at the Samaritan Medical Center Hospital and Summit Village in Watertown, NY.
