Obituary of Michael C. Sorensen

Michael C. Sorensen, 69, Shangraw Road, Rodman, died Thursday morning, April 28, 2016, at the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.  Funeral service will be 11:00 am Monday at the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams, with Rev. Leon “Toby” Schilling officiating, with a celebration of life at the American Legion in Sackets Harbor to follow. Calling hours will be Sunday 2:00-6:00 pm. Burial will be private at a later date. 

Born March 22, 1947 in Adams Center, son of Durwood and Rena (Frasher) Sorensen, he graduated in 1966 from the Adams-Adams Center High School.  He entered the United States Air Force and was later honorably discharged due to medical injuries.  

 Mike worked as a police officer in Adams, Theresa, Alexandria Bay and Sackets Harbor where he retired as Police Chief in 1995.  He also worked for the US Postal Service for 31 years, retiring as maintenance supervisor in 2007.  He began driving school bus for South Jefferson Central School in 2008 until the time of his illness. He was very dedicated and enjoyed every minute with the students. 

For the past few years, he also served as Zoning Officer for the Town of Rodman.

 He is survived by his wife Rosanne; three sons, Justin (Jennifer) Sorensen, Rodman, Brian (Jennifer) Lynch, Antwerp, Brent Lynch, Adams; three daughters, Kimberley Sorensen, Watertown, Erin (Claude) Mayne, Rodman, Shannon (James) Bergmeyer, N. Fort Meyers, FL; twenty three grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two brothers, David (Margo) Sorensen, Wilmington, NC, Ronald (Rosemary) Sorensen, Amsterdam, NY; one sister, Melinda (Jimmy) Stark, East Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews. 

Mike enjoyed deer hunting with his family, camping and hiking the High Peaks in the Adirondacks, horseback riding and riding his Harley Motorcycle. He found that new passion for riding later in life and joined the Road Dawgs Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, where he was known as “Shadow”. He thoroughly enjoyed hitting the road with his brothers, and taking long rides and vacations with the love of his life, Rosanne.

He was a member of the Sackets Harbor American Legion, and the Syracuse Chapter Road Dawgs Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, where he also served as secretary. 

 He married Rosanne Shorkey Lynch of Evans Mills in 1980.  The couple lived in Adams Center before moving to their new home in Rodman in 1998.
