Obituary of Carl H. Ramsey

Carl H. Ramsey, 75, of Adams Center, died Sunday evening at his home where he had been under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County. Calling hours are 4:00-7:00 pm Thursday at the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams. A graveside service will be 11:00 am Friday in the Union Cemetery, Adams Center, with Rev. Terry Alford, pastor of the Smithville Baptist Church, officiating. Carl was born December 3, 1940 in Smithville, son of Lee and Lola (Gill) Ramsey. He graduated from the Adams Center High School in 1959.He worked for his father in law at DeHart’s Service Station in Adams Center. He also owned his own construction and trucking business for a few years. He married his high school sweetheart Dawn DeHart of Adams Center, on July 15, 1961 at Saint Cecilia’s Church, Adams. The couple have lived in Adams Center all their married life. In 1965 he entered the New York State Police Academy. After graduation, he was stationed in North Syracuse, later serving in Watertown where he retired as Sergeant in 1986. During that time he also served in the National Guard 479th Combat Engineers from 1966-1972. Following his retirement from the NYSP, he was a superintendent and grade foreman for Suit-Kote on blacktop construction at the Salmon Run Mall, Fort Drum and several other locations and was a sales representative for Suit-Kote for the Jefferson County Highway Department. He also worked for Ives Construction, Watertown. He In 2000, Carl opened C.H. Ramsey Auto Sales in Adams Center, closing in April 2016. Most recently he worked for local auto sales, where he and his wife would deliver and pick up autos. Surviving besides his wife Dawn, are three sons and a daughter in law, Michael C., Adams Center, Matthew C. and Mary Beth, Adams, Mark A., Adams Center; his mother in law Barbara DeHart, Holly Hill, FL; three sisters in law, Barbara Ramsey, Watertown, Mabel Ramsey, New Smyrna Beach,FL, Sally (Fred) Fowler, Watertown; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Donald and Mason Ramsey, a niece Amy Ramsey, and father in law, Clark DeHart. Carl was an especially devoted husband and father, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a member of the American Legion Don Rounds Post 586, Adams, and the NYSP Benevolent Association. He was a former member and officer of the South Jefferson Little League.
