Obituary of Virginia I. Berkey
Virginia “Ginny” I. Berkey, 78, of Liberty Street, Adams, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday December 16, 2017. She had been under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County. A memorial service will be at 4:00 pm Saturday at the Adams Center Baptist Church, with Rich Hardy, pastor, officiating. Calling hours will precede the service beginning at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in the spring in the Rural Cemetery, Adams.
Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home, Inc., Adams.
Born April 17, 1939 in Watertown, NY, daughter of Forest “Bud” and Louise (Summers) Sprague, she graduated from Adams High School. She worked at the former Lally Corset Company, Adams, and Dairylea Cheese Factory, Adams.
She devoted her time to raising her children and was regarded as an awesome mom and grandmother.
On November 25, 1961, she married Charles William Berkey at the Adams United Methodist Church with Rev. Harold Barnard officiating. The couple lived in Adams all their married life. Mr. Berkey died July 4, 2007.
She is survived by two sons, Brian Berkey, Adams, Jeff (Donna) Berkey, Vermont; two daughters, Audrey (Timothy) Jerome, Adams Center, Louanne Valley (Chris Goetz), Adams; daughter in law Tina Berkey, Adams Center; four grandchildren, Heather (Joseph) Miner, Watertown, Brenna Berkey (companion William Gardner), Tennessee, Mike (Sara) Lillie, Dexter, Josh (Chelsea) Lillie, Henderson, several great grandchildren, and a brother Leslie (Paulette) Sprague, and her close friend Lillian McDermid Gilbert, Baldwinsville, NY.
She is predeceased by a son Russ Berkey who died November 18, 2009, a niece Elizabeth Sprague Buddehagen, two brothers in law, Robert and Thomas Berkey, a son in law, Ralph Valley and a sister Vaneeta Eager.
She was a member of the Adams Center Baptist Church and enjoyed Bible studies, crossword puzzles and keeping her daily journal.
