Obituary of Frank J. Rubik

Lorraine - Mr. Frank J. Rubik, 87, died Monday evening, August 4th, at the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown. A Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 am Saturday, August 16th at St. Cecilia’s Church, 17 Grove St., Adams, with Rev. Martin Cline, Pastor, officiating. There will be no calling hours and the burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams. Frank was born May 30, 1927 in the Town of Worth, son of Gregor and Rose Nowakowski Rubik. He graduated from Proctor High School in Utica. While in high school Frank worked in a local foundry. After graduation he joined the Local 17 in Newburg and worked for many years as a foreman in heavy construction. One of the many projects he worked on was the water viaduct from Downsville to New York City. He retired in 1993. He married Shirley Griffin of Livingston Manor June 23, 1950 at St. Aloysius Church in Livingston Manor. The couple lived mainly in Livingston Manor until moving to Lorraine in 1993. Mr. Rubik is survived by his wife Shirley, two sons and a daughter in law Frank A. and Joan Rubik, Oswego; Scott Rubik and his companion Colleen Dumenigo, Livingston Manor; two daughters and their husbands, Constance and Stan Stoverski, Waterford and Opal and James Jack, Springfield, VT; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother Andrew Rubick, Colorado Springs, Col and and two sisters Stella Sheldon, Copenhagen and Jennie Dine, Phoenix, AZ and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by three brothers Joseph Rubik, Michael Kaban, George Kaban and two sisters Mamie Kaban and Margaret Volpe. As well as a member of the Local 17, Newburg, Mr. Rubik was a communicant of St. Cecilia’s Church, Adams. Donations in his memory may be to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
