Obituary of Catherine E. Babcock

ADAMS, N.Y.  —  Catherine E. Babcock, 95, of 87 East Church St., died Sunday evening, Aug. 24, at the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.  

The funeral service will be 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Piddock Funeral Home, Adams, with Rebekah Q. Solar, pastor of the Henderson United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Smithville Cemetery. Calling hours will be 1 to 4 p.m. preceding the funeral. 

 Born May 19, 1919, in Pinckney, daughter of Edgar and Iva G. (Bennett) Baker, she graduated from Dexter High School.  

 She married Howard C. Babcock in Dexter on Oct. 23, 1937. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Evans Mills where they farmed, and later farmed on several farms in Henderson before purchasing a farm on the Penny Road in Henderson. Mr. Babcock died Dec. 19, 1985.

 Mrs. Babcock worked for thirty years at Angels Inn, Watertown, in several capacities before retiring in 2009 as office manager. She moved to Country View Apartments, Adams, in 2011.

 Surviving are a son, Paul Babcock, Henderson; a daughter, Patricia Guthrie, Henderson; 10 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren; a brother, Edgar Baker, Fort Myers, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sons, Earl F. Babcock and Charles Babcock, two grandsons, Jeff Babcock and Dale Babcock, three brothers and two sisters.

 She was a past member of the North Country Fiddlers Association.

 Donations in her memory may be made to the Smithville Cemetery Association or the American Heart Association.
