Dannell Gamel posted a condolence

My brother Darius was just a few years old when he became part of my family and almost six years younger than myself. My parent flew to Saskatchewan Canada to take him away from an orphanage. It is unknown of any affiliation he may have shared with any of the 70 First Nations in Saskatchewan, 61 of which are affiliated to one of the nine Saskatchewan tribal councils, but he became one of the Gamels with my mother fiercely defending his differences to anyone that dared to make any issue of it.
I remember the first time we met and I instantly accepted him as my brother. He was my little buddy that worked and played with me on our family farm. We swam in the creeks during the summer and rode horses together. Every new thing I learned or attempted, I helped and encouraged him to do the same and he was always able to do the same things easier and quicker than I did and at an earlier age. He never needed training wheels on his bike and when I was teaching him to box at 14, he made me see stars within the first few minutes. Darius had a gift of learning or trying a skill just once and mastering it. He never seemed to struggle with school and worked with me side by side on many jobs as a young teen doing a man’s share of the work and never never complained.
To his friends, you may remember when he stopped to help you with no questions. He as always ready to lend a helping hand to family, friends and even strangers. He possessed the positive affective presence that makes other people feel good and become instant friends. He always saw humor in even the most difficult situations and was a dependable friend to everyone that knew him.
To his sons and daughters, know this – that in his last few days, we talked about the heritage passed on from his parents to him and that your heritage is all that passes to you. His legacy of traditions, values, unique identity, language, personal traits, both physical and characteristic are now your gifts to possess and pass on to your children. He loved all of you. He acknowledged to his sister Lorene of his acceptance to Christ Jesus’ free gift of salvation by faith and knew he was soon to be in heaven. He was the best “little brother” and my best man at my wedding. I will miss him for the remainder of my life until I see him again in heaven.
