Obituary of Norma H. Sheldon

ADAMS, N.Y. — Norma H. Sheldon, 87, of Adams, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Hospice of Jefferson County in Watertown, where she had been a patient since Sept. 4. The Lucile-Glen Ida Chapter OES will conduct a service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Piddock Funeral Home in Adams. Immediately following will be the funeral service, with Rev. Mona Fargo, pastor of the Adams United Methodist and Sulphur Springs Churches, officiating and Rev. Beverly Bibbins, retired minister of the Rodman Community Church, co-officiating. Calling hours will be 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private in the Adams State Road Cemetery. Born Dec. 3, 1926, in West Carthage, a daughter of George and Clarissa (Frasier) Hastings, she graduated in 1943 from West Carthage High School. She married E. Clyde Sheldon of Adams Center on Sept. 28, 1945, at the Carthage Methodist-Episcopal Church with Rev. Harold Barnard officiating. The couple lived in Whitford Corners. Mr. Sheldon was a self employed electrical contractor for many years and she was a devoted mother and homemaker. Following his death on Dec. 2, 1998, she moved to Rodman and then in 2000 to her current home in Adams. Surviving are a son, Eric C. (Mary) Sheldon, Lorraine; two daughters, Melanie (Phillip) Branche, Rodman, and Karen (Jack) Freer, Seneca Falls; six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; a cousin, Jessie Hastings, Carthage; and several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Valerie Ratigliano, and a sister, Bertha Martin, both died before her. Mrs. Sheldon was a 50-year member of the Lucile-Glen Ida Chapter OES, Rodman.
