Obituary of Luther W. Abrams

Luther W. Abrams, 95, Rodman died Wednesday evening at the home of his daughter and son in law, Annette and Barry Sullivan.  There will be a memorial service, Friday October 10th at 3:00pm at the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams, with Rev. Beverly Bibbins, retired pastor of the United Church of Christ, Rodman, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Rodman.  A calling hour from 2:00-3:00 will pre-ceed the service. In addition to his daughter and her husband, Mr. Abrams is survived by three sons and their wives, Robert A. and Charolette and William L. and Susan all of Rodman, John W. and Diana, Catawba, NC, 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  He is predeceased by a grandson Robert Phillip who died in 1994.                          Born February 28, 1919 in Auburn, son of George H. and Daisy (Leader) Abrams, he graduated from Auburn High School in 1938.  He entered the United States Army in 1941and served in WWII in the 34th Tank Battalion of  the 5th Armored Division. Following his discharge in 1945 at the rank of Sargent, he worked for O.D. Greene Lumber Company where he did millwork and carpentry, and the House of the Good Samaritan where he was a carpenter in the maintenance department.  He retired in March 1980. He married Florence Bailey on December 11, 1943 in Auburn at the home of his parents.  The couple lived in Rodman until 1981 when they moved to  Lincoln City, Oregon. They continued to spend summers at their camp in Rodman, stopping in North Carolina for several weeks to visit family.  Following Mrs. Abrams death in May, 2010 Mr. Abrams decided to remain in Rodman. Mr. Abrams is a charter member of the Rodman Fire Department and a past Rodman Fire Commissioner, as  well as a former member,  and the Treasurer of the Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church in Lincoln City, OR, and former member and Treasurer of the Adams Center Baptist Church.
