Obituary of Irene M. Erickson

Irene M. Erickson, 91 of Lorraine, passed away at Samaritan Keep Home in Watertown where she had been a resident since December 2022, on May 12, 2024. A graveside service will be 10:00am Friday, May 17 in the Rural Cemetery, Adams, NY. Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home Inc, Adams, NY. Born September 9, 1932 in Watertown, NY, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Sr. and Genevieve (Powers) Fowler. Irene graduated from Adams High School in 1950 and then from Oswego State in 1955. Irene taught school for 28 years retiring from South Jefferson Central School in 1987. She married Alfred Erickson June 18, 1955 in Lorraine Methodist Church. She is survived by a son, Donald (Joanne) Erickson of Lorraine and a daughter, Cheryl Hutchinson (Scott Towsley) of Adams; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers and a sister-in-law; Perry Fowler of Woodville, and Karl (Pam) Fowler of Henderson;  and many nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, who died on September 12, 1994. In addition to her husband she was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, June Fowler, Woodville, brothers and sister-in-laws, Floyd Jr. (Frances) Fowler of Lorraine, Robert (Phyllis) Fowler of Florida, Clarence (Theresa) Hammond of Rome, a brother, Ivan Fowler and a sister, Barbra Audebert, both of Lorraine. She is also preceded in death by three nephews, Allen Fowler of Woodville, and Bryan Fowler and Ralph Fowler, both of Lorraine, as well as many family members on Alfred's side. She truly enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing , playing cards, canning, and in her earlier years camping and boating.
