Obituary of Barbara Ann DuColon
Sackets Harbor - Barbara Ann DuColon, 74, died Saturday evening at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown. Her funeral service will be 11:00 am Wednesday at the Henderson United Methodist Church, with Rev. Leon ‘Toby’ Schilling, Director of Pastoral Care Services at Samaritan Medical Center officiating, and Rev. Rebecca Solar, pastor of the Henderson United Methodist church, co-officiating. Burial will be private in the Elmwood Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Tuesday from 3:00-7:00 pm at the Piddock Funeral Home in Adams.
Born in Watertown on July 1, 1940, daughter of Barbara Hathway and Ward Raymond Holley. Ann grew up in Adams, went to college at Cortland State, graduating in 1963. She took graduate courses from Oswego, Potsdam and Syracuse. She was a past member of Early Childhood Education and College Women’s Club. She was also a member of the NYS Retired Teachers’ Association, NYS United Teachers, Sackets Cide Ladies in Red, Gourmet Club, Treefoil Trooper, Women’s Connection and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She was a member of the Henderson United Methodist Church where she took on many duties that included Communion Steward and Supper Club Officers, including President.
She married Jack V. DuColon on December 27, 1959. The couple lived in Watertown where Ann taught 1st-3rd grades at Cooper and Starbuck Schools for 34 years. They had two children, Michael Ward DuColon of Dickinson, TX and Michele Renee DuColon Glover and her husband Tim, of Watertown, NY.
She also has a sister, Pam Jones, brothers’ in law Dick Jones and Norman Thomas, half brother Bill Bovee, three grandchildren, Carly Rae and Connor Jack DuColon and Sara Ann Glover, and one great grandson Ayden.
She is predeceased by her husband Jack, who died in November 7, 1989 and a sister Linda, October 26, 2006.
Ann enjoyed spending time with family and friends, oil painting, stained glass, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles and Sudoku. She loved to travel and had been to most of the states and six continents, with a wonderful trip around the world in 2012.
