Obituary of Marjorie B. Ballantine

Marjorie B. Ballantine, 91, of Adams Center, died at home Sunday June 23, 2024, where she had been under the care of her children and Hospice of Jefferson County. Born August 6, 1932 in Rodman, NY, daughter of Walter E. And Gladys (McMachen) Brown, she graduated from Adams Center High School in 1949. After graduation she worked for several years at the Rodman Post Office. She married Thomas E. Mills of Rodman in 1954. After their marriage, the couple lived in Rodman. The marriage ended in divorce. She later married William J. Ballantine of Watertown. Following their marriage they lived in Adams Center all their married life. Mr. Ballantine died April 15, 2006. Marjorie continued living in their home, with her son moving from NYC to Adams Center in 2021 to stay with her as her health declined. Marjorie worked at Howard Johnson's Restaurant, Benny’s Steak House and Ives Hill Country Club, all located in Watertown. She worked as a hostess, waitress and bartender. Surviving is a son Thomas R. (Laury) Mills, Adams Center; a daughter Wanda MacQueen, South Carolina; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one niece. She is predeceased by a son Timothy Mills, a sister Harriet Hockey and a son in law Gus MacQueen. Upon retiring Marjorie enjoyed attending yard sales looking for jigsaw puzzles she completed then exchanged with like minded friends. She also enjoyed reading mystery novels, completing crossword puzzles and crocheting. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Rodman on Saturday June 29 at 11:00 am.
