Obituary of Cole A. Filson

Cole A. Filson, 75, of Worth, NY died Friday December 27, 2024 at the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, NY. There will be a ceremony and celebration of Cole’s life in the spring on the Filson woodlot with the date and time announced later. Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home Inc, Adams, NY. Born March 25, 1949 in Worth, son of Samuel E. and Betty A. (Pooler) Filson, he graduated from South Jefferson Central School in 1968. He worked for the Town of Worth for several years before attending the Police Academy at Syracuse University. Upon his completion, he began working at the Watertown Police Department in July 1974. He did road patrol and range instruction, retiring in December 1996. Following his retirement he was a Federal Guard at the Social Security office in Watertown for thirteen years Cole’s father had a sawmill in the Town of Worth located on the family woodlot where Cole was born. Later the mill was moved to Bullock Corners in Worth. He married Cynthia L. Newton of Barnes Corners on June 27, 1976 in the Town of Rodman. The couple have lived all their married life in the Town of Worth. Surviving besides his wife Cindy, is a son Samuel C. Filson, Rodman; a daughter Marrisa L. Filson, Worth; a grandson Tucker Schilling; four granddaughters Abigail Filson, Breanna Filson, Emily Filson, Jolyne Rogers: three brothers, John Filson, Randy Filson, Flint Filson; one sister Marie Hodkinson; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by both his parents. Cole enjoyed hunting, fishing, logging and was a big NY Giants Football fan, but the greatest loves of his life were his wife, his two children and his five grandchildren. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, Police Benevolent Association and a member of the Tug Hill Commission.
