Obituary of Joel G. Kellogg
Joel G. Kellogg, 71, of Adams Center died unexpectedly at his home Wednesday morning. There will be a memorial service 11:00am Wednesday morning May 13, at the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams, with the Rt. Rev. Canon William D. Small officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday 5-8pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Adams Center.
He is survived by his wife Marlene, a son and daughter-in-law Steven and Rebecca, Dexter; a daughter and son-in-law Lena and Danny Hotis, Pierrepnt Manor; five grandchildren, Jonathan and Devan Kellogg, Brayton and Nathan Gould and Judy Whalen. He is also survived by three brothers and their wives, William and Bonnie Kellogg, Henderson Harbor, Gregory and Grace Kellogg, OK, Brian and Kathy Kellogg, Gibsonia, PA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joel was born October 26, 1943 in Adams Center, son of Charles and Doris Worden Kellogg. He graduated from Adams Center High School in 1961 and entered the US Army the following September where he served as a MP in Munzenberg, Germany. Following his discharge in September 1964, he went to work with his father in the family lumber business in Adams Center and for a while served as a Jefferson County Deputy Sheriff. He later went to work for New York State Department of Corrections serving 25 years at the Watertown Correction facility, retiring October 27, 2006 as a Sergeant.
He married Marlene Brown of Winthrop, NY, on July 30, 1968 and the couple have lived in Adams Center all their married life.
Joel especially enjoyed visiting his camp in Aldrich, and fishing in his Lyman and Chris Craft boats.
