Obituary of Cecile L Remington

Adams - Cecile L. Remington, 99, longtime Adams resident, died Wednesday evening February 12 at the Rome Memorial Hospital surrounded by loved ones. There will be a graveside service in the spring in the Rural Cemetery, Adams. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams. Born January 4, 1915 in Woodville, daughter of Raymond and Grace Sykes Lyman, she graduated from Adams High School in 1932 and later attended Watertown School of Commerce. She married Samuel Remington on September 4, 1933 at the Belleville Methodist Church parsonage with Rev. Miles Hutchinson officiating. The couple lived in Adams all their married life. Mr. Remington died February 7, 1981 at the age of 76. Mrs. Remington worked as a secretary at Dairylea Milk Plant in Adams for seven years, the Jefferson County Journal as a linotypist for several years, and as a typist at the Jefferson County Social Service Department from 1965 until her retirement in June 1980. She is survived by a son, Lyman, Jacksonville, AL; Three daughters, Ann Miller, Auburn, Faith VanVranken and companion Timothy Sherbino, Watertown, Grace Smith, Watertown; nineteen grandchildren, and several great and great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by one daughter, Hazel Kellar who died in 1994, one grand daughter, Alicia Wasilenwski, a grandson Edwin VanVranken, one great grand daughter who died at birth and a sister Thalma Nichols. She was a member of the Adams United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, and sewing wedding gowns for her daughters and grand daughters.
