Obituary of Roena G. McIntosh

ADAMS, N.Y. — Roena G. McIntosh, 49, a longtime Adams resident, and now of Islamorada, FL, died suddenly Wednesday, June 10, in Fort Lauderdale, FL, in a motorcycle accident. A memorial service will be 11:00 am Saturday, June 27, at the Adams United Methodist Church, Adams, with Rev. Mona Fargo officiating. Local arrangements are with Piddock Funeral Home, Adams. She was born Feb. 23, 1966 in Watertown, a daughter of David and Phyllis Sunderland McIntosh. A 1984 graduate of South Jefferson Central School, she went on to obtain an accounting degree at Lemoyne College, Syracuse, and a master's degree in special education at Wright State University, Dayton, OH. Later she attended SUNY, Oswego where she became certified in secondary math. Roena worked as a substitute teacher in local schools in Jefferson County and in the Florida Keys. She lived in Adams Center and Adams, spending several winters in Florida and became a Florida resident establishing residency there in Islamorada in 2011. Roena was widely recognized for her ability in working with stained glass, enjoyed kayaking and fishing. She was active in the Matecumbe Methodist Church in Islamorada. Roena is survived by her mother Phyllis, Adams; two sisters, Tia Sawhney, Chicago, Melynda McIntosh, Seattle, WA; a niece, Asha Sawhney; and a nephew Bundev Sawhney, both of Chicago. She is predeceased by her father who died in 2011. Donations in her memory may be made to Matecumbe United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 905, Islamorada, FL, 33036.
