Obituary of Pauline M. Nuffer

Pauline M. Nuffer, 85, former long time resident of Adams, died Sunday evening September 20, 2015 at the Iroquois Nursing Home, Jamesville, NY. Funeral service will be 11:00am Friday at the Adams Village Baptist Church, with Rev. Thomas Tharp officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will precede the funeral beginning at 9:00am at the church. Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams. Born December 26, 1929 in Hornell, NY, daughter of Walter B. and Helen Simpson Mason, she graduated from Hornell High School, attended SUNY Geneseo where she earned a BS in Liberal Education and SUNY Brockport earning a MS in Education. She worked as a Librarian at Cuba Central School and Allen Creek School, taught 5th grade at Senecas Falls and for nineteen years she taught grades 4-6 at South Jefferson Central School. She married Gerald C. Nuffer on December 28, 1963 in Seneca Falls. The couple lived in Potsdam and later moved to Adams. Mr. Nuffer died February 23, 2006. Pauline moved to Manlius in 2011 and in 2014 moved to the Iroquois Nursing Home. She is survived by two sons C. Michael (Candee) Nuffer, Watertown,NY, Edward C. (Grace) Nuffer, Niceville, FL; two daughters Suzanne Nuffer-Balstra, Baldwinsville,NY, Barbara N. (Philip) Favreau Jr., Lafayette, NY; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; She is predeceased by a daughter Kathleen Nuffer-Davis, who died in 2005. Pauline enjoyed knitting, crafts, golf, swimming, traveling and gardening. She ran the “Mitten Committee” for the South Jefferson Lions Club to get hand knit mittens for needy children at Christmas. She also knit “Premie Caps” for Samaritan Medical Center. She was on many committees, some of which included, Girl Scout Camp Councelor, Adams Village Baptist Church, United Way, and the Adams Free Library. She was a member of the former Tomacy’s Golf Club.
