Obituary of David L. Broadhurst

David L. Broadhurst, 71, of Greene Street, Adams Center, passed away at his home under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County and his family on Sunday February 28, 2016 David was born on March 4, 1944 in Mannsville, Ny to John W. and Muriel Hemenway Broadhurst. He graduated in 1964 from Adams Center - Adams Central School. He married his high school sweetheart Bonnie Kenyon on October 24, 1964 at the parsonage in Belleville, NY by Rev. Miles Hutchinson. David was past president and treasurer for many years of the Adams Center Fire Dept. and a current member of the Adams Center Fireman’s Benevolent Association. He was employed as a meat cutter at Carl Fassett’s store in Adams Center and at Rod’s Big M in Adams and Sandy Creek, Ron’s Big M in Philadelphia and the Sackets Harbor Big M. He retired as a meat cutter at Sam’s Club, Watertown in 2006. David enjoyed working in his flower garden, woodworking and bird watching, but most of all his family was his greatest joy. He is survived buy Bonnie, his wife of 51 years; two sons and daughter’s in law, David and Sue Broadhurst, Belleville, Jeff and Debbie Broadhurst, Rodman; five grandchildren, Nik Broadhurst, Adams, Lane Broadhurst and his fiancee Melissa Thomas, Adams Center, Ryan Broadhurst, Alexa Broadhurst and Cadence Broadhurst, all of Rodman; one great grandson Chase Broadhurst, Adams Center. He is also survived by three brothers and a sister in law, Merwin Broadhurst and Paul Broadhurst, both of Sandy Creek, and Neil and Jane Broadhurst, Battle Ground, Washington; one sister and brother in law, Janice and Ray Abdella, Elba, Ny, and many nieces and nephews. David and his sons and grandsons are well known locally for their deer cutting skills. In honor of his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. His body will be cremated. Anyone wishing to make a donation in his memory may do so to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., Watertown, NY 13601. Bonnie and her family ask anyone who would like to pay their respects to David, to stop in at the family home at their convenience.
