Obituary of Madalene N. Barney-Winnett

Adams Center - Madalene N. Barney-Winnett, 92, died Saturday July 9, 2016 at Samaritan  Summit Village, Watertown.  Funeral service will be 10:30 am Thursday at the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams, with Rev. Brian Snyder, pastor of the United Westland Church, Sandy Creek officiating.  Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery, Adams Center.  Calling hours will be from 4-8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Born January 13, 1924 in Adams, daughter of Everett and Audrey (Hill) Yerdon, she graduated from Adams High School in 1942.  Following graduation, she married Hiram Barney of Belleville on March 25, 1944.  The couple operated a dairy farm on the Smithville Road for many years.  In 1967 they sold the farm and moved to Adams Center.  Mr. Barney died on October 30, 1982. She later married Norman Winnett of Burrville on October 14, 1995.  The couple lived in the Country View Apartments, Adams, before moving to the former Mercy Care Center of Northern New York and then to Samaritan Summit Village.  Mr. Winnett died August 31, 2014. Mrs. Barney-Winnett worked at Weston’s Department Store in Watertown for several years, then at G.L. Thomas & Sons, Adams, for thirteen years as a book keeper, and for a short while at the Adams Sale Barn before retiring. Surviving is one son Gary (Bonnie) Barney, Adams Center; two daughters Sharon (Dave) McMahon, Watertown, Dianne Scott, Adams Center; five grandchildren, Jodi Burnash, Michele (Travis) Smithers, Brian (Deanne) Gunn, Allen (Jennah) Barney, Karen (Jordan) Barney; ten great grandchildren, Makenzie Barney, Bayley Madden, Aiden King, Nolan, Tristan, Maddox and Sofia Smithers, and Kayann, Mileigh and Christian Gunn; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by two brothers, Carl and Gordon Yerdon. Mrs. Barney-Winnett enjoyed playing BINGO and cards and especially being with her family.   She was a member of the Adams Center Volunteer Fireman’s Auxiliary for over 48 years and the Adams Center Grange.
