Obituary of Elsie A. Griffith
Elsie A. Griffith, 92, longtime resident of Smithville died Monday afternoon at the Samaritan Summit Village in Watertown. A memorial service will be held in the Henderson United Methodist Church on Saturday January 27 at 1:00pm. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams.
She is survived by a son and daughter in law Robert and Cindy Griffith, Adams Center, one daughter Betty Alice Patten, Texas City, Texas, two grand children and four great grandchildren, a sister Mrs. Margaret Dwyer, Watertown, two nephews Donald and Daniel Dwyer. In addition to her husband she is predeceased by a brother Harold Overton and her longtime friend and companion Dawson Dick.
Mrs. Griffith was born September 21, 1925 in Adams daughter of Chester and Alice Nichols Overton. She graduated from Adams Center High School and in 1946 graduated from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing as an RN. For a number of years she worked at Mercy, did private duty nursing for several years and then became a Social Worker at the Jefferson County Department of Social Services retiring in 1994.
She married Donald Griffith of Rochester June 23, 1947 in the Smithville Baptist Church. Mr. Griffith died April 17, 1972. The couple lived in Smithville where Mrs. Griffith remained until entering Summit Village.
Mrs. Griffith was a member of the Henderson United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Smithville Fire Dept. Auxilary.
