I lost touch with J. Lee years ago, but continued to think of him often. I was so sad to happen upon his obituary today. I met him when I first decided to go into acting. It was my first summer stock job at Mac-Haydn Theatre. He played Papa Charlie to my Nathan in Shenandoah. What a kind man, and a generous actor. He made such a positive lasting impression. I enjoyed following his career and keeping in touch through so many years. I am so saddened to here of his passing in 2014. My belated condolences to his family. He will be remembered and greatly missed!

Best music teacher I ever had. Was the only person I have ever seen who could do a standing back flip on the gym floor. Had a passion for music that he shared freely with all of his students. He was a great man and will be missed.

I remember Mr Flynn so well. I had him as a music teacher and chorus director at BG in 7th and 8th grade in 1962-64. I am able to read music and sing alto because of him! My fondest memories of him were the music classes where we studied the opera that was being presented in Binghamton and then we got to actually go to the opera. It was the first time we Jr. High girls got to dress up and wear high heels. We all understood the "foreign language" music and loved the afternoon. Rigoletto was my favorite. My condolences go out to all of you. He was a wonderful teacher and man.

Dear Mrs. Flynn and family, it was with great sadness that I learned about Mr. Flynn's passing. I was a student of his at Town of Webb High School in Old Forge. I have many fond memories of him. He was an incredible music teacher, choir director, friend and all around amazing human being. While we recognize he is in a far better place and that we will see him again someday singing with the Angels, our hearts are still sad. Please accept my deepest sympathy to you all at this time. RIP Mr. Flynn

Lee was gifted with the ability to draw the best from everyone with whom he worked. Although more than thirty five years have passed since I had the pleasure of working with Lee, the polished ensemble work and perfectly expressed solos remain in my memory, as did Lee's enthusiasm for every project. We share this time of sadness, but are better for having known J. Lee. God Bless.

Our hearts are broken, first our Son and now to hear this... is too much! We both loved this man for the inspiration and support he gave us as young performers.
We could not have asked for a more dear friend than Lee,a true artist, teacher and mentor. We can still hear his glorious voice as it filled the church at our wedding. RIP my Tevye...you were among the best actors I ever had the pleasure of directing or acting with onstage. We will miss you!

I am so saddened about this. I was a student of his at Watertown High School, went on to be a professional musician in Fort Lauderdale. My mother and I saw him there at the Parker Playhouse in "Lend Me A a Tenor" , he was just fabulous. I sent a note backstage, and he was gracious enough to visit with us after the performance. I was thrilled that he remembered me! What a great talent, and a wonderful man. My sincere condolences on his passing.

I remember when Grammy Glynn died. I was seven years old and really didn't understand how fragile life was. I remember like yesterday sitting in a quiet corner of church with you and you explained what was going on. It was you that made it all ok for me. It was your patience and love that helped me get through that whole experience. As I got older I remember when you came and lived at our house to fulfill your dreams of acting in the city. My friends thought you were so cool- you even taught us to cartwheel in our yard. I can still picture you doing that cartwheel- I was so amazed! I am so sad that your time with us here on earth is over- but I understand you were tired and it was time. I am so happy that you and my Dad will finally be reunited. My Dad loved you so much. I am so glad I got to see you in July- I knew so much about you but learned so much more at the tribute this summer. I will cherish all my memories of you:) You were an inspiration to me- it was role model like you that taught me that anything is possible. I love you and will really miss you. Thank you so much for helping me through my Dad's illness and death. Tell my Dad I love him and I miss him everyday.

Dede and family,
Our sincere condolences on the death of your Dad. It took me by surprise to see his name on newzjunky, but we, too, are facing the aging of our parents with bewilderment at how soon it has seemed to arrive. I have so many fond memories of the overnights at your house and of our friendship in Junior and Senior High. It was one of the best parts of my youth. Your father has certainly left an imprint upon many lives through his music and will be long remembered for his contributions to the betterment of this world that we live in. He rests now in the comfort of God's loving arms and in that thought we have a measure of peace. Our thoughts are with you all during this difficult time.

He was a great guy, a great teacher because he made chorus so fun. I always remember he asked us basses to sing the phrase "And God said" with great 'power'. He said enunciate. So we did, with great gusto. And it came out "Anda Goda Saida". He stopped us and said, "No not like you just got off the boat from the old country!" Really enjoyed the time spent with him. Did "The Apple Tree" with him and it was a lot of fun. Very glad he got to pursue his dreams in theater. Thoughts and condolences to all of you.

Although I never had the privilege of having Mr. Flynn as a teacher, I remember seeing him at the various music festivals and competitions (I was a singer in musician, in high school in the early 70's, in Clayton.) I had the pleasure of seeing him in several musicals in Watertown, and the great pleasure of seeing him, in the late '80's, in "Allegro" in NYC and in the Bway revival touring company of "Bye Bye Birdie" in San Francisco. When speaking to him after the latter, I told him how incredibly impressed and awed I was by him becoming a professional actor after a career teaching. A great, GREAT man; I am so sorry for his family's loss; my deepest sympathies to all of you and to his former students, colleagues: everyone who knew him. R.I.P.: he left this earth far too soon.

My heartfelt condolences to the Flynn family. Mr. Flynn was a favorite teacher of mine and an inspiration. Over the many years since I left high school, I've thought of him often and smiled to remember how he always found a way to give a minor part to my talentless little self, letting a shy kid have a small place in the crowd. I treasure the memories of those high school and Lyric Theater musicals and mourn the passing of a great teacher who taught me that the world was bigger than I thought.

Barbara--I am very sorry to hear of Lee's passing. I taught with him at WHS until I left in 1976 and always enjoyed his comments on the ways of the students he and I shared. I also enjoyed that he noted that at the teacher gatherings at Christmas he noted that my lips moved, but no sound appeared when he was leading the group in songs. He will be missed my many, including Judy and me.

Condolences to the Flynn Family. May God give you peace in the coming days. It is a heavy heart that J Lee left this earth to soon. It was just like yesterday, J. Lee posted a new play at North Junior High School. The play was called "The Guy From Venus". I signed up and a day later, I was given the honor of the lead roll with Cheryl Bush. Several others had rolls like Karen Randall, Douglas Shambo, Jeff Robinson, Fred Hockey, Kathy Ulmen, Kevin Elliott, John Wolf, Dan Fuller, Peter Pike, Tom Snyder, and many more. J Lee saw the good in everyone. In the program he wrote "can't help but feel that is was a great experience for you" It was a experience of a life time. Every time there is a musical on TV I could only think of J Lee. Rest in peace J.Lee Flynn.
